Somashekar Reddy held in bail scam

August 07, 2012 03:44 am | Updated 03:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

After three days of questioning in the cash-for-bail scam involving the former Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested his brother G. Somashekar Reddy, Bellary MLA, when he went to its office on Monday.

Mr. Somashekar Reddy was produced in court, which remanded him in judicial custody till August 17.

With this arrest, all eight accused in the original case have been arrested; three more persons are also behind bars in a separate case booked over a parallel attempt to secure bail for Mr. Janardhan Reddy. The ACB had described Mr. Somashekar Reddy as the propounder of the crime. The remand report submitted to the court on Monday said that he and his relative G. Dashrathram Reddy struck a deal for Rs. 20 crore with judge T. Pattabhirama Rao and others to get bail for Mr. Janardhan Reddy, who has been arrested in the illegal mining case.

They negotiated the bail with the help of a history-sheeter, Yadagiri Rao, at the house of an advocate.

As part of the understanding, Rs. 9.5 crore was released in advance and the rest was to be paid after Mr. Janardhan Reddy was bailed.
