The residents of various slums in the city took out a rally here on Tuesday urging the State government to fulfil their demands, including title deeds.

Protesting under the banner of ‘Mandya City Slum Residents’ Forum’, they took out a rally from Bengaluru-Mysuru highway near Cauvery Park and staged a demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre had suspended the Rajiv Awas Yojna (RAY). However, the State government was not requesting the Centre to continue the scheme, they alleged.

The protesters demanded title deeds for those living in Tamil Colony and Kalikamba slums. They also sought permanent shelters, under government schemes, for slum dwellers at Gaadi Karkhane and Shramik Nagar here.

The forum members demanded drinking water, electricity, roads, drainage and other facilities for the residents of Slaughter House, S.D. Jayaram Layout and others slums in the city.
