The Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project and the Karnataka Road Development Corporation, which supervises the construction of roads in the State, has recommended using slag sand in all its projects.
The Public Works Department, which is already using slag for road construction, is considering switching over completely to slag sand in all civil works.
Vaman Acharya, chairman of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, had recently stated that GBFS was piled up as waste on over 300 acres at steel plants in the State.
