Six-day theatre festival in Kalaburagi from February 11

Kalaburagi Rangayana and Samudaya Karnataka have organised a six-day theatre festival titled ‘Bandhura Sahishnutegagi Rashtriya Rangotsava’ here from February 11.

Rangayana director R.K. Hudgi told presspersons here on Sunday that artistes from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu would perform six plays in different languages. The objective of the theatre fest was to uphold fraternity and communal harmony in the society.

Film and theatre director M.S. Satyu would inaugurate the fest. Karnataka Nataka Academy chairman L.B. Sheikh Master and theatre artist and playwright L.B.K. Aladal would be present.

Prof. Hudgi said that artistes from the Kalaburagi Rangayana would perform ‘Kalajyan Kanaka’ directed by Ramzan Sab Ullagaddi and a troupe of Karnataka Rajya Samudaya Repertory will perform ‘Mrityunjaya’ directed by Sripad Bhat, on February 11 and 12, respectively.

On February 13, Tamil Nadu-based theatre group Koothu-P-Pattarai would stage ‘England’, written by N. Muthuswamy and directed by Pralayan. Asakta Kalamanch, a Pune-based theatre group would perform ‘Mein hoon Yusuf aur yeh hai mera bhai’ in Hindi directed by Mohit Thakalkar on February 14.

On February 15, a theatre group from Bengaluru would perform ‘Cherry Thota’ a Kannada translation of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard’. On February 16, artistes from the Kalaburagi Rangayana would perform ‘Thayi’ a Kannada translation of German playwright Bertolt Brecht’s ‘The Mother’.
