The court will deliver the sentence tomorrow
A fast-track court on Wednesday convicted six persons of rape in the October 2012 incident in which a law student fell victim on Bangalore University’s Jnana Bharathi campus.
The sentence will be delivered on Friday.
The gang-rape of the student and the assault on the male friend accompanying her in the wooded areas of the campus had sparked a furore over the safety and security of women in the city.
Of the eight accused, the Jnana Bharati police arrested seven — Shivanna, Yellaiah, Eeraiah, Doddeera, Maddura and Rama, besides a juvenile delinquent. While the juvenile is being tried under the Juvenile Justice Act, the eighth accused, identified as Raja, is absconding.
The court, which completed the trial in a record 20 days, found the six persons guilty of all the charges levelled against them under abduction (366), gang rape (376 -2G), dacoity ( 397) and assault ( 323 and 324).
