Vijayapura police with four of the six men arrested in the Fayaz Mushrif murder case and the weapons seized from them.

By arresting six persons, including three who are from outside Karnataka, the district police have made a breakthrough in the murder case of Fayaz Mushrif, who was shot dead near the Datri Masjid on November 7. Two of them have been sent to judician custody.

Fayaz Mushrif was the nephew of City Municipal Corporation Mayor Sajjadepeer Mushrif.

The police also seized from them two cars, three machetes, three mobile phones and a countrymade pistol with a live round.

Superintendent of Police D. Prakash told a news conference on Saturday that the prime accused, Mohammad Asif Inamdar, was still at large. Two teams have been searching for him and seven more suspects in Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

A lookout notice has already been issued to all the international airports in the country to stop Inamdar from fleeing the country. “We are confident of arresting the other culprits shortly,” he said.

Of the six, Abdul Razak Kumasagi (52), Anwarhussain Badami (28) and Sabir Patel (50) are from Vijayapura city. Sabrez Sayyed (38), Dilbar Hussain Sayyed (22) and Guddu Khan (28) are from Uttar Pradesh “but they were living in Pune for several years. They are apparently contract killers who were hired only to kill Fayaz Mushrif,” Mr. Prakash said.

He said it was a murder over personal enmity between Asif Inamdar and Fayaz as Fayaz was the prime accused in chopping Asif’s hand in 2012.

In that incident, a case of attempt to murder had been booked against Fayaz in the Gandhi Chowk police station. “The three accused persons from the city who have now been arrested said Fayaz used to threaten them and obstruct their real estate dealings,” Mr. Prakash said.
