The State could be sitting on a veritable gold mine, going by FIMI’s analysis. At least 15 sites in Karnataka have significant and extractable gold resources, said Subject Committee Chair (non-ferrous and precious metals) at FIMI, V.N. Vasudev.
There are another 90 sites in the State that have ‘gold shows’ — areas identified by geologists as having gold occurrence — which could become mines. The 15 gold prospects in the districts of Haveri, Raichur, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Dharwad, Chitradurga, Gadag, Tumkur and Kolar, together hold 280 tonnes of gold, and 35 million tonnes of tailing dumps in KGF could yield another 12 tonnes of gold , he added.
