Sindhia accuses D.K. Shivakumar of misusing election machinery

May 07, 2013 03:48 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:29 pm IST - BANGALORE:

Janata Dal (Secular) candidate from Kanakapura Assembly Constituency P.G.R. Sindhia on Monday accused election officers of conniving with Congress candidate D.K. Shivakumar and not acting on his complaints.

Addressing presspersons, he alleged that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were kept in an education institution for which Mr. Shivakumar was a trustee, instead of a government institution. “Authorities shifted the EVMs to Gousia College of Engineering in Ramanagaram, after Janata Dal (Secular) workers staged a protest at midnight”, the JD(S) candidate said.

Expressing apprehension over “tampering of EVMs”, he sought to know the reason behind the power failure for two hours in the educational institution where the EVMs were deposited.

Complaint

Mr. Sindhia said that he had complained in this regard to Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha, who assured him of referring the complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner. He alleged that Mr. Shivakumar was distributing freebies even after commencement of polling and the authorities were silent about that.

“So far we have filed several complaints with the authorities on poll illegalities by Mr. Shivakumar, but they have not acted even in one incident”, he regretted.
