Income Tax sleuths also searched properties of relatives of the MP

Sleuths from the Income Tax Department searched several premises linked to Davangere BJP Member of Parliament and former Union Minister G.M. Siddeshwar in Davangere and Chitradurga.

Mr. Siddeshwar is a leading businessman in arecanut, with interests across various sectors like sugar, cooperatives and education. I-T sleuths on Thursday conducted search operations at his house in Davangere, sugar factory, and G.M. Souharda Pattina Sahakari Niyamita, a co-operative society run by his family.

Sleuths also searched several premises belonging to his relatives, including his brothers.

His brother G.M. Lingaraju was earlier arrested by Lokayukata SIT probinsearchedg the illegal mining and export of iron ore.

Sources said that the I-T searches against the MP was a continuation of the recent drive against shell firms and high-value book entries made through these firms, post-demonetisation. The search operations in the two districts were still on, and officials refused to divulge details of the findings during the search and seizure operations.
