The Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is yet to “take off” despite completing one year in office, the Bharatiya Janata Party alleged on Tuesday, and announced that it would launch a Statewide campaign against the “failures” of the government.
BJP State unit president Pralhad Joshi told presspersons here, “Congress legislators themselves have been publicly saying that this government is yet to take off.”.
He accused the government of being “defunct”, and added that it had failed on all fronts in its first year of governance. “We will expose this government through the campaign,” he said.
Completing one year in office was the only achievement of Mr. Siddaramaiah, who did not have control over his Ministry and bureaucrats, Mr. Joshi said.
Increasing power tariff and KSRTC and BMTC bus fares was like rubbing salt into the wounds of people who were already inconvenienced by the lethargic attitude of the government, he alleged.
Referring the government withdrawing some schemes soon after announcing them, Mr. Joshi described the Siddaramaiah government as a “withdrawal dispensation”.
Drought reliefThe government had failed to take up drought relief measures effectively, he alleged, and added that Ministers had not shown interest in holding review meetings on relief work.
The Agriculture Minister was missing from action when the State was reeling under drought while the Energy Minister was interested only in getting the tariff increased rather than properly managing the power supply scenario, he alleged.
