Condolence meetings recalling the achievements of Kannada poet, writer and researcher G.S. Shivarudrappa, who passed away in Bangalore on Monday, held in Mandya.

The district administration on Tuesday held a meeting to mourn Kannada poet, writer and researcher G.S. Shivarudrappa who passed away in Bangalore on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner B.N. Krishnaiah, P.C. Jayanna, Chief Executive Officer of the Mandya Zilla Panchayat, and Mandya City Municipal Council Commissioner M. Dase Gowda recalled Shivarudrappa’s contribution to Kannada language and literature. Mr. Krishnaiah said Shivarudrappa had penned many inspiring poems and books on various subjects.

The Deputy Commissioner said that he spent some time with the poet in 2006 when he was awarded the title of Rashtrakavi.

Floral tributes were paid to Shivarudrappa at the meeting. Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, Assistant Commissioner Shantha L. Hulmani and Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department Anne Gowda were present.

On Monday, JD(S) leaders N. Cheluvaraya Swamy, MLA, C.S. Puttaraju, former MLA, and Somashekar Keregodu, councillor, expressed sadness over the demise of Shivarudrappa. They recalled the writer’s contributions to the literary field.

The district Kannada Sahitya Parishat held a meeting here on Tuesday to mourn G.S. Shivarudrappa.

Many writers and intellectuals took part in the meeting and recalled Shivarudrappa’s contribution to Kannada literature.

‘Never be forgotten’

They said that he would be remembered forever for his valuable poetry, prose and his days as head of the Kannada Study Centre in Bangalore University.

H.L. Janardana, president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat of Hassan, and writers Ja. Ho. Narayanaswamy, Goruru Shivesh, Ganesh Udupa were present.
