Shivamogga City Corporation to soon have three divisional offices

‘Quickly recruit staff members needed for their smooth functioning’

March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - Shivamogga:

The Shivamogga City Corporation will open its divisional offices at three places here, said its Commissioner A.R. Ravi.

The divisional offices would be established on the premises of the Shivamogga Urban Development Authority, Shivappa Nayaka Market and the commercial complex owned by the corporation on Kote Road. All services being extended by the corporation at its main building would be available at the divisional offices also, he said at a continued budget meeting of the corporation here on Monday.

Councillor N.J. Rajashekhar of the Bharatiya Janata Party said that it would be beneficial to the public, if divisional offices were opened at four places. Mr. Ravi said, the divisional offices were opened on the basis of population.

As per the existing rules, there was a provision to open only three divisional offices, he said.

Councillor H.C. Yogish suggested that the staff complement needed for smooth functioning of the new divisional offices should be recruitment at the earliest.

Mr. Ravi said, the unscientific manner in which speed breakers had been laid across Shivamogga were causing lot of inconvenience to vehicular movement. Henceforth, speed breakers should be laid only after consulting the Traffic Police, he said.

The councillors, cutting across party lines, expressed displeasure over the alleged slow pace of work related to implementation of filling potholes along the main connecting roads in the city. Mr. Ravi said, the contractors concerned had stopped the work for the past few days owing to delay in clearing pending bills. As the government had agreed to release Rs. 25 crore to the city under Chief Minister's Small and Medium Towns Development Plan, the work of filling potholes would soon be resumed and completed in about 45 days, he said.

Mayor Mangala Annappa and Deputy Mayor Palakshi were present.
