‘Adequate funds set aside for civic amenities’

Shivamogga City Corporation on Saturday presented a surplus budget of Rs. 2.82 crore for 2015-16, which consists of total receipts of Rs. 183.97 crore and total expenditure estimated of Rs. 181.24 crore.

Gopalakrishna, chairman of the Standing Committee for Taxation, Finance and Appeals, who presented the budget at a meeting here, said that adequate funds had been set aside for upgrading civic amenities in city limits in the budget.

A sum of Rs. 1 crore had been earmarked for the construction of a skywalk with escalator facility at the bus terminal of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. A sum of Rs. 1.5 crore had been reserved for providing a face lift to the Krishnarajendra water works near Gajanur, Rs. 1 crore for development of tanks and Rs. 70 lakh for installation of drinking water supply units in commercial areas here.

It had been planned to construct public toilet complexes at six places in the city, he said. Of the Rs. 183.97-crore receipts mentioned in the budget, Rs. 106.7 crore would be in the form of grants-in-aid from the government, Rs. 16.77 crore mobilised from property tax, Rs. 16.56- crore grants from the State Finance Commission and Rs. 13.29 crore water tax. A sum of Rs. 15 crore had been set aside to meet the expenditure towards salary, Rs. 13 crore for solid waste management and Rs. 12 crore for drinking water supply.

Mayor Mangala Annappa, Deputy Mayor Palakshi and Commissioner A.R. Ravi were present.
