Shivaliangaiah is Tumkur varsity in-charge VC

D. Shivaliangaiah, Registrar of Tumkur University, assumed charge as in-charge Vice-Chancellor of the varsity on Friday, as per the orders of Governor H.R. Bhardwaj.

S.C. Sharma completed his term as the Vice-Chancellor of Tumkur University on Friday. Prof. S.C. Sharma became the Vice-Chancellor of Tumkur University in May,2009. Earlier, he was the principal of R.V. College of Engineering in Bangalore.

Prof. Sharma faced opposition from several organisations, including the Students’ Federation of India, Vidyarthi Janata Dal (Secular), Dalit organisations and people of Tumkur, for changing the logo of Tumkur University. But he did not give in and did not retain the old logo of Tumkur University. Busts of Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi, Shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, social reformer Basaveshwara, entrepreneur P. Sadananda Maiya, scientist C.N.R. Rao, the former Minister V.S. Acharya, Kannada poet Kumaravyasa were unveiled on the Tumkur University campus when Prof. Sharma was the Vice-Chancellor.

He was given a farewell by the staff members on Friday.
