Shirol’s Congress veteran Appasaheb Patil no more

Appasaheb alias Satgonda Revgonda Patil, socialist, veteran Congress leader and former two-time MLA from Shirol in Maharashtra, died in a hospital here on Wednesday.

Aged 94 years, Mr. Sa. Re. Patil as he was fondly called in this region, died at 5.30 a.m., according to officials at the KLE Prabhakar Kore Hospital where he was admitted.

He is survived by wife, son, daughters and grandchildren.

Mr. Patil was hospitalised a few months ago. He was being treated for Parkinson’s disease and ailments related to old age.

Appasaheb was elected to the Maharashtra legislative assembly from Shirol in 1999 and 2009.

He was a founder promoter and sitting chairman of the Shree Datta Shetkari Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., Shirol. He was associated with the socialist movement and headed several social and co-operative organisations in Maharashtra.
