Ex-KPCC spokesperson Harikrishna Bantwal says this will control communal violence in Dakshina Kannada
Former spokesperson of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Harikrishna Bantwal said here on Wednesday that the office of Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police should be shifted out of Mangaluru to Puttur to control recurring communal violence in the district effectively.
He told presspersons that since Mangaluru Taluk is under the jurisdiction of Mangaluru Police Commissionerate there was no need for the office of Superintendent of Police in Mangaluru. Puttur would be the ideal location. He wanted the police outpost at Farangipet, one of the communally sensitive areas in Bantwal taluk, upgraded as a police station to manage law and order in an efficient manner.
Mr. Bantwal said that the district administration should convince owners of all buildings, including residential and commercial, along the roads to install CCTV cameras facing the roads. It would help in identifying trouble makers during communal violence. It would also help in avoiding road rage incidents.
Mr. Bantwal, formerly a general secretary of Dakshina Kannada Congress Committee, said that police and Ministers alone cannot control communal violence in Dakshina Kannada. Instead people should join hands to prevent such incidents. A majority of people in all communities wanted peace and were not trouble makers. Only a few indulged in it. Their activities spoiled the image of the entire district and its people. To counter them, people should report any suspicious or communal activities to the police immediately to avoid escalation of tension later.
