Shettar condemns police action on ABVP activists

August 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:15 am IST - HUBBALLI:

Condemning the police lathi-charge on ABVP activists in Bengaluru on Friday, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar has sought immediate action against the police officers concerned.

Speaking to presspersons during an inspection of a housing scheme here on Friday, Mr. Shettar said that instead of acting against those who had indulged in anti-national activities, the State government was wielding its power on students who were seeking action against anti-national elements.

He also sought to know why the State government was reluctant in taking action against the guilty, although there was enough evidence to prove their anti-national act.

He urged the State government to immediately take action against the police officers who ordered the lathi-charge on the students who were staging a peaceful protest.

Protests

Meanwhile, members of the BJP Yuva Morcha staged protests in both Hubballi and Dharwad condemning the police action on ABVP activists.

In Dharwad, the Yuva Morcha members staged a demonstration and burnt old tyres to register their protest. In Hubballi, a similar protest was staged in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha.
