Sheshe Gowda quits Congress

M.K. Sheshe Gowda, general secretary of the KPCC’s Backward Classes wing, has tendered his resignation from the party’s primary membership and decided to contest the Assembly election as an Independent from Arkalgud constituency in Hassan district. Mr. Gowda, who had sought ticket to contest from Arkalgud, said on Wednesday he was upset with the party’s decision to field Minister for Sericulture and Animal Husbandry A. Manju despite allegations of corruption against him.

“Leaders in the Opposition parties and the media have been calling him corrupt. As the Congress denied ticket to several incumbent MLAs, it should have denied ticket to Manju this time. I have submitted my resignation and will file nomination papers as an Independent on April 23,” he said.

He, however, said he would remain a follower of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, but would contest as a rebel candidate.
