Dejected over the Congress having denied ticket to veteran leader C.K. Jaffer Sharief to contest from Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency, Syed Javed Ali (44) allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday. The situation came to light only on Saturday.

Mr. Ali, a resident of Devarajeevanahalli, has been admitted to the State-run Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and his condition is said to be critical.

Hospital Medical Superintendent S. Rajanna said, “Although Mr. Ali was conscious when he was brought to the hospital on Wednesday night, his condition has worsened. He is in the intensive care unit,” the doctor said. There were reports that another supporter, Moin (45), suffered a cardiac arrest after he learnt that Mr. Sharief was denied ticket. But, doctors at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, where he is said to be admitted, has not confirmed this.
