The Hubballi Dharwad Police, who arrested five persons in connection with the murder of zilla panchayat member Yogeeshgouda Goudar, are investigating further as there are still several loose ends in the case.

Police Commissioner Pandurang Rane told presspersons that five of the accused had confessed to committing the crime, fed up with the threats of Goudar. He, however, added that they were investigating further based on technical evidence that they had obtained so far.

On the political connections of the main accused Basavaraj Mutagi, he said that he was associated with an organisation which was also being investigated. On Mutagi’s political connections, particularly his association with a Minister, Mr. Rane said that they still require time for a detailed investigation of all other aspects. He also did not disclose the identity of the sixth accused, who is still absconding.

Mr. Rane said that the police were also investigating the anonymous letter received by Goudar’s family a day before the murder informing him about a conspiracy to eliminate him. The anonymous letter had the names of two influential Ministers in the State Cabinet and Mr. Rane said that this was also under investigation.
