Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Jagadish Shettar urged the State Government to constitute an expert committee to suggest a suitable location to establish Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the State.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Shettar said several districts have been lobbying for setting up of the institute. The government has the right to establish IIT anywhere in the State, but it has to take immediate decision to suggest the place to the Centre to establish it, Mr. Shettar said.
Educationists and experts have argued that politics must be kept out of site selection for IIT. They argued that IIT should not become a monument but a live centre of learning inhabited by best brains of the country.
Arakavathi
Mr. Shettar said he was confident of Governor Vajubhai R. Vala granting sanction to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in alleged denotification of lands in the Arkavathi housing layout scam in Bengaluru.
Mr. Shettar said “whether the Governor gives sanction or not, Mr. Siddaramaiah cannot escape from the Arkavathi scam. The BJP has enough evidence to nail the Chief Minister in the scam”.
BJP-supported Advocates Nataraj Sharma and S. Doreraju had filed a complaint before the Justice H.S. Kempanna Commission, which has been enquiring into alleged de-notification of lands in the layout scam.
