‘Set up committees to monitor maintenance work at railway stations’

April 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Suresh C. Angadi, MP, has urged Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to set up district-level committees with the concerned MP as its chairperson to monitor maintenance works in railway stations.

He said here on Friday that it would go a long way in maintaining cleanliness on the premises of railway stations and effectively redressing grievances of commuters.

Mr. Angadi said but for a few of them, most railway stations in the country had a nauseating view and unhygienic conditions. “This is because of the negligence of both officials and workers,” he said.

Mr. Angadi said that most railway officials function as if they were still under the British and did not tend to change their attitude and work culture. As the Indian Railways had grown to be the largest public sector undertaking in the world, such a situation demanded the officials become proactive and strive hard to change the shape and condition of railway stations and attract more people to use trains.
