Taking note of the achievements of senior citizens on the occasion of World Elders’ Day, Minister for Women and Child Development Kalakappa Bandi honoured six personalities from different fields and one social service institution on Monday.

Those felicitated included Yakshagana exponent Leelavathi Bipadithaya, educationist B.V. Muragod, social worker A.W. Ganapathi, writer Mumtaz Begum, veteran sportsperson Cyril D’Costa, advocate Sadashiva Kallappa Araleekatte and the Ramalingeshwara Gramabhiruddhi Sangha in Belgaum.

Meanwhile, NGOs HelpAge India and the Federation of Senior Citizen Forums of Karnataka (FSCFK) jointly organised a 1.8-km “intergenerational” walkathon from Kohinoor Grounds to Makkala Koota .

The FSCFK signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sri Raghavendra Sevashram Vrudhashrama, which runs an old age home near Malur in Kolar district. They launched the Sahaya Hasta Scheme under which the FSCFK will provide the residents of the home with food, medicine and clothing and renovate the structure.

It is good that recognising senior citizens and honouring,at the same time Govt. should come forward to give concessions in all taxes.
1.Provide concession in all KSRTC and BMTC buses.
2.BBMP should not collect all kinds of cess on property taxes.
3.All Govt. and Private hospitals should provide the health facility and Govt should reembrace the cost of health charges
4.Senior citizens should given preferance at the time of meeting Govt officials and other Ministers and MLA's
5.All kinds of taxex on medicine should be withdran.
