Self-styled minority status

School managements have sought to declare themselves as minority schools since they are exempted from providing 25 per cent reservation for children from weak and disadvantaged groups. While there are 1,037 minority schools in the State as per the Education Department’s data, several schools have claimed self-styled minority status from associations and the village accountant, leaving officials stumped and parents fuming. Only the Commissioner of Public Instruction is authorised to provide religious and linguistic minority status to schools.
