Governor Vajubhai R. Vala has sought clarification from the government on its recommendation to appoint four members to the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had recommended four names for the Governor’s approval to fill up vacant posts. Mr. Vala has sought to know if the decisions were taken by the State Cabinet.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said he would clarify to the Governor that the Cabinet had authorised him to finalise the names. “We will soon send a detailed clarification. [The Governor] has not rejected the file and has only sought a clarification,” he said.
In 2015 too, the Governor had sought more details on the names recommended by the government to the KPSC. Acting on complaints by various organisations, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, that the persons recommended had political affiliations and were embroiled in other controversies, the Governor had sought more details.
In 2015, the CM had recommended V.R. Sudarshan, a former MLC, for the post of KPSC chairman. The names of IPS officer Syed Ulfat Hussain, activist Govindaiah, Channapatna politician Ragunandan Ramanna, CM’s personal physician M. Ravikumar, academician Nagabhai Bulla, and Forest Department officer Michael Simon were proposed as members.
