Seers of six of the Ashta Mutts have decided to take action against Lakshmivara Tirtha Swami of Shiroor Mutt for the controversial remarks he allegedly made and which were telecast on a TV channel recently.

The seers held an emergency secret meeting at Madhwangana here on Thursday night under the leadership of Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt. The 86-year-old Vishwesha Tirtha is the senior-most among the seers of the Ashta Mutts.

Speaking to presspersons after the meeting early on Friday, Vishwesha Tirtha Swami said there was no discussion at the meeting on the issue of the Shiroor seer contesting the Assembly elections.

He said the meeting only discussed the controversial remarks of the Shiroor seer and took a decision, which he did not divulge.

“We will let you know about it at the appropriate time,” the Pejawar seer said.

Vishwesha Tirtha Swami, who was at the Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha in Bengaluru and conducting examinations for students in religious studies there, came here by flight only to attend the emergency meeting. He took a flight to Bengaluru on Friday morning.

All seers, except Lakshmivara Tirtha Swami and Sugunendra Tirtha Swami of Puttige Mutt (who is abroad), attended the meeting.

Those who participated in the meeting were Vidyasagar Tirtha Swami of Krishnapur Mutt; Vishwapriya Tirtha Swami of Admar Mutt; Vidyadheesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Palimar Mutt; Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swami of Kaniyur Mutt; Vishwavallabha Tirtha of Sode Mutt; Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, junior seer of Pejawar Mutt; and Ishapriya Tirtha Swami, junior seer of Admar Mutt.
