The countdown for the results of elections to the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) council and other urban local bodies has begun. Counting of votes will commence at 8 a.m. on Monday.
With the fate of candidates having been sealed, the early leads and trends are expected by 8.15 a.m. and the authorities are hopeful of announcing the results by 1 p.m.
Counting of votes to ward nos. 1 to 19 and ward no. 21 will be taken up at JSS Pharmacy College, Bannimantap, Bangalore–Mysore Road, while counting of votes to ward no. 20 and ward nos. 22 to 40 will be held at Maharani’s Arts and Science College on JLB Road. Likewise, counting of votes to ward nos. 41 to 65 will be taken up at JSS College on Ooty Road.
Deputy Commissioner Rame Gowda told presspersons on Sunday that all arrangements for counting of votes have been made. The staff has been trained on the counting process and each counting table would be manned by a supervisor under whom there would be an assistant.
Similarly, arrangements are in place for counting of votes for the other urban local bodies in the district. Security has been beefed upto prevent untoward incidents and additional police have been deployed in sensitive areas.
Commissioner of Police K.L. Sudheer said 300 constables would be deployed at each counting centre. In addition, 8 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police, 16 platoons of City Armed Reserve, 250 home guard personnel, four units of commandos and 30 mounted police would be in place to maintain law and order, he said. The authorities have also announced that Section 144 would be clamped throughout the city. There will be a ban on victory procession by elected candidates or their supporters.
The Deputy Commissioner accompanied by other officers of the district administration went around the counting centres to supervise and apprise themselves off the preparations for counting of votes.
