The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has held the Bharatiya Janata Party and right-wing elements responsible for the riot in Madikeri on November 10 during the birth anniversary programme of Tipu Sultan, in which two persons died and several others sustained injuries.
The organisation held a demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the district administration here on Friday condemning the incident.
The memorandum demanded that the government take stern action against all those responsible for spreading communal tension and hatred in society.
The memorandum said that right-wing elements pelted stones on the people who were participating in a procession to mark the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan.
Later, the situation turned violent, in which two persons belonging to different religious faiths died.
Meanwhile, the district unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal took out a protest rally and burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Siddaramiah accusing him playing caste politics in the name of celebrating Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary. They held the Congress government responsible for the incident in Madikeri, and demanded the resignation of Mr. Siddaramaiah.
