A day after a Bengaluru-based school was forced to call off a classroom activity on China following opposition from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka urged school managements to keep a close watch on school premises and ensure there is no influence from local groups with a political agenda.
In the advisory to school managements on Friday, the association said schools should have an apolitical environment and should conduct activities that don’t lead to controversial situations. It has, however, pointed out that teachers and principals should not discuss anything negative in class about neighbouring States or countries. It has also asked schools to avoid reading ‘negative’ news during assembly.
The association condemned the activists who trespassed on to the premises of Delhi Public School (DPS), Bengaluru North. On Thursday, the management of DPS, under pressure from right-wing groups, cancelled a classroom activity pertaining to the ‘New Year Celebrations of China’ and five other countries, including India. ABVP had claimed that it was “wrong” to observe this event in light of the volatile relationship between India and China.
Mansoor Ali Khan, board member of DPS Group of Schools, said a case would be filed against ABVP members for trespassing and intimidating the school staff.
