Schools directed to install CCTVs

The State government has sent a circular to all schools to install CCTV cameras in classrooms and on campus. This alone incurs a huge expenditure on the government exchequer, considering the number of government schools across the State.

There are nearly 50,000 government schools, of which 45,000 are primary schools. Even if the government spends about Rs. 20,000 to install CCTV cameras in a school, it requires Rs. 100 crore to cover the entire State.

Mohammed Mohsin, Commissioner of Public Instruction, in his circular issued on July 23, said installation of CCTV cameras is among the instructions given. The circular has been sent to all government, private and aided schools. Based on this circular, the respective district administrations have forwarded instructions to schools. Superintendent of Police Ravi D. Channannavar, in a press conference here on Friday, said, “This applies to all schools. Those who do not follow the instruction will be held responsible for any untoward incident,” he said.
