Schoolchildren safety policy to be placed before Cabinet soon

December 19, 2014 12:58 pm | Updated 12:58 pm IST - BELAGAVI:

A new comprehensive policy on the safety of schoolchildren will be placed soon before the State Cabinet for final approval, Home Minister K.J. George said in the Legislative Council here on Thursday.

He said that in the wake of schools objecting to the guidelines issued earlier by the government, with a few even approaching the court, a committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary V. Umesh had been asked to come out with a comprehensive policy that would have revised guidelines for the safety of schoolchildren.

“We will place the revised guidelines before the State Cabinet and then finalise it,” he said while replying to a query by BJP member Arun Shahapur.

The Home Minister said an expert committee led by M.C. Nanaiah had been asked to submit its recommendation on bringing amendments to the law to ensure safety of children and women, and based on the report further steps would be taken.
