The school teacher, who was set on fire by her husband in a classroom in Magadi on August 16, succumbed to burns on Sunday.

Sources at Victoria Hospital where the teacher, Sunanda, was taken to on August 18, after being initially treated at a private hospital in BTM Layout, said she had suffered 60% burns. “We tried to keep her alive but it was difficult due to the extent of burns,” the sources added.

Sunanda’s husband barged into the classroom at the government lower primary school at Shambaihana Palya on the outskirts of the city and doused her with petrol, after asking the three students who were in the classroom to leave.

The husband, who had been absconding after the incident, committed suicide at Dharmasthala on Saturday.
