Three girls of different high schools collapsed while attending the Republic Day parade in Maddur of the district on Monday morning.
The incident took place at Maddur Taluk Stadium when Maddur MLA, D.C. Thammanna was taking a salute after unfurling the national flag.
Sources at Maddur taluk administration told The Hindu that Divya of Kasturaba School, one of the members of the band troupe, collapsed while attending the parade. Fifteen minutes later Priya of Vijaya Vidya Samthe and after sometime Ankitha of Poorna Prajna Convent suddenly fainted on the ground.
Without food
The girls had been participating in the Republic Day events for more than four hours without food or water. They attended flag hoisting programmes at their schools, later reached Ugranarasimha Swamy temple, and from there reached the stadium in a procession, a senior police officer said.
A good number of girls had been showing giddiness due to series of programmes, the officer said.
They were rushed to Gurushanthappa Public Hospital (Government hospital) in ambulance for treatment and after sometime discharged from the hospital.
Sources at the hospital said that the girls collapsed due to exhaustion.
