The boundary dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra that was listed for hearing by the Supreme Court on Monday afternoon was deleted from the cause list following a government order that the matter was not to be posted before Supreme Court judge L. Nageshwara Rao.
According to sources in New Delhi, the matter was listed for hearing at 2 p.m. before a three-member Bench consisting of J.S. Khehar, V. Gopala Gowda and Arun Mishra. But, as Mr. Arun Mishra was not available, Mr. Rao was on the three-member Bench.
Senior advocates P.P. Rao, S.S. Javali, Advocate-General Madhusudan R. Naik, advocate M.B. Zirali of Belagavi, besides advocates M. Krishnappa and V.N. Raghupathy, were present in court.
The Supreme Court is expected to list the matter for hearing at a later date.
Maharashtra filed an Original Suit [No 4/2004] in 2004 before the Supreme Court seeking transfer of areas dominated by Marathi-speaking communities in the boundary areas.
