The Vemagal police in Kolar taluk have arrested one person and registered case against eight people for attacking Revenue Department officials while preventing illegal sand extraction on Sunday.

The members of an alleged sand mafia manhandled revenue inspectors (RIs) and a village accountant (VA) when the latter raided and tried to prevent the illegal sand extraction at Maniyanahalli gomal under Madderi Gram Panchayat limits. The incident occurred at around 1.15 a.m. on Sunday.

The police arrested Narayanaswamy, one of the accused.

The gangsters damaged vehicles of officials besides manhandling the staff during the raid. RIs Lokesh, Manjunath and VA Gopal were the part of the team which conducted the raid.

It may be recalled here that Kolar Tahasildar Rangegowda was attacked by the sand mafia near Narasapur under Vemagal police limits some months ago.

Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra and Superintendent of Police Ajay Hilori visited the spot and instructed the police to initiate stringent action against perpetrators of crime.
