Veerashaiva Lingayat Samanvaya Samiti takes out march opposing Lingayat rally to be scheduled in Kalaburagi on September 24.

Members of the Veerashaiva Lingayat Samanvaya Samiti took out a rally here on Friday to oppose the Lingayat rally scheduled on Sunday demanding religion status for Lingayats.

Around 12 organisations attached to the Veerashaiva Lingayat Samanvaya Samiti and chiefs of various mutts participated in the march from Jagat Circle to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and sought Governor Vajubhai Vala’s intervention to help accord independent religious status to Veerashaiva-Lingayat.

‘Remove Ministers’

Samiti president Chandrashekar Hiremath demanded the removal of Ministers for misusing their powers and indulging in efforts to divide Veerashaiva-Lingayat. He accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of spreading caste politics to attract community votes. “But his tricks will fail in the upcoming Assembly elections,” he added.
