Samiti accuses KEA of violating court order

The Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Ambedkarwadi) has urged Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil to “undo the injustice done all these years to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students”; they wanted the government to ensure that the seats reserved for SC/ST students in professional colleges were allocated fully.

DSS State convener Shivayogi R. Kollur met Dr. Patil here on Sunday and presented a memorandum. He told Dr. Patil that meritorious SC/ST students who secured high marks should be admitted under the general quota, not given a reserved seat. This deprives other SC/ST students, who scored lesser marks, of the seat, he said..

The Supreme Court has repeatedly made it clear to the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) to ensure that this did not happen. KEA has violated the court order, Mr. Kollur said. Dr. Patil replied that he would discuss the matter with the KEA.
