A Government school in Srinivasapur taluk in Kolar district has fetched a fair amount of money from the mango trees grown in the school premises.
After selling the variety of mangoes, the Government Lower Primary School at Avalakuppa village which took place a couple of days before the start of the new academic year, earned the school more than Rs. four lakh.
Avalakuppa falls under Hodali Gram Panchayat limits in Srinivasapur taluk, famous as the Mango Barn of Karnataka. The LPS had the property of 10-acre land which has been donated by a Good Samaritan.
The mangrove has helped the school earn a good income on auctioning. This time around, when the bid was called for the yield, it was finalised for Rs. 4,26,500 by one J. Shankar beating another bidder Athaullah. In all, more than 20 people participated in the auction process in the presence of School Development and Monitoring Committee office bearers.
Totapuri, neelam, benisha, raspuri, kalapahad and other variety of mangoes are being grown on the school land.
SDMC President Puttaraju, Vice President Pratibha, Head-Master M. Ravindra were present among others.
