The postponement of the second Pre University Course mathematics examination on Tuesday put students to inconvenience. The Department of Pre University Education has postponed the examination to April 1 following reports of alleged leakage of mathematics question paper in some parts of Kolar and Chickballapur districts.
Unaware of the announcement, students and their parents came to the examination centres in the morning only to hear about the postponement. Students, particularly those from rural areas, were put to hardship as they had to catch a bus early in the morning to reach the exam centres. Some students, who had watched the news on TV channels, arrived at the exam centres only to confirm the news. “I came here to confirm the news,” said Salma, a student of Government PU College.
Amid reports that question papers were sold in Mulbagal and Malur in Kolar district resulting in the postponement of the examination, District Treasury Officer K. Nagaraj ruled out the possibility of the role of treasuries in the alleged question paper leakage in the district.
“Security in all treasury offices, including the one in the district centre, was tight. All precautionary measures were taken to ensure the safety of the question papers in the strong rooms of the treasuries,” Mr. Nagaraj told The Hindu on Tuesday.
The authorities concerned did not receive any mathematics question papers in view of the postponement. But geography examination was held as scheduled in some centres in the district.
Deputy Director of Pre University and Vocational Education Training Department M.G. Doreswamy said that complaints will be lodged with the police in connection with the selling of question papers.
