The five accused who were arrested for the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker Rudresh in October 2016, were planning to kill a least two RSS workers, said a report from the National Investigation Agency, which filed a charge sheet in the case on Friday.
Terming the murder as an act of terror, the NIA said, “The murder was committed with an intention to strike terror among a section of the people.” The agency believes that the five men had been indoctrinated and that they were serving a larger purpose.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) termed the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker Rudresh as an act of terror in the charge sheet that was filed on Friday before the Special Court for NIA Cases, Bengaluru.
Rudresh was murdered on October 16 on the busy Kamaraj Road, and in December the case was transferred to the NIA for investigation.
Five people — prime accused Irfan Pasha, Waseem Ahmed, Mohammad Sadiq, Mohammed Mujeeb Ulla and Asim Sheriff — were arrested and charged under various sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act including punishment for terrorist act, conspiracy and being member of a terrorist gang or organisation.
According to NIA sources, the investigation has established that all the five are members of Popular Front of India and its affiliated political organisation, the Social Democratic Party of India.
“Though none of the accused had any personal enmity with Rudresh, he was killed solely because of his role in the leadership/ membership to a particular organisation. The murder was committed with an intention to strike terror among a section of the people,” read the NIA charge sheet.
Further, the NIA claims that the accused had organised meetings near Aksa Masjid and Chota Charminar in Bengaluru in September 2016 to kill at least two RSS workers in uniform soon after their procession, Patha sanchalan. The murder was aimed at preventing people from joining the RSS.
NIA investigators believe that the five accused had been indoctrinated to believe that they were doing their part of fulfilling the objective of establishing jihad. Investigation into who was responsible for the indoctrination process is ongoing.
Further investigation will be conducted in the case.
