As many as 189 roads will get a facelift and 42 bridges will be built across the State at a cost of Rs. 192.38 crore, utilising assistance provided by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).
The Cabinet Subcommittee on RIDF had in September proposed take up road improvement works and construction of bridges at a cost of Rs. 320 crore. The bank, however, communicated its sanction for 189 road improvement works and construction of 42 bridges in November, according to the Public Works Department.
Approval
After the State Finance Department issued acceptance certificate to avail itsself of loan from NABARD, the government accorded administrative approval for these projects. While the total project cost is Rs. 192.38 crore, NABARD will provide Rs. 153.9 crore, the government approval issued here recently said.
Haveri district has got the lion’s share of the projects worth Rs. 25.89 crore, including construction of a bridge across the Kumudvati on Rattehalli-Malagi-Kanavishiddagere Road in Hangal taluk at a cost of Rs. 4.9 crore.
Two bridges will be built on the Doddaballapur-Chickballapur Road at a cost of Rs. 1 crore while four roads in Bangalore Rural district will get a facelift.
In Bangalore urban district, Govindapura-Narasipura Road and Maktur Cross-Kalenahalli Road will be improved at a cost of Rs. 1.4 crore. Four roads will be improved in Ramanagaram district at a cost of Rs. 2 crore.
In Kolar district, Rs. 5.05 crore will be spent on improving six roads while five roads will be improved in Chickballapur district at a cost of Rs. 4.15 crore. In Tumkur district, 16 roads will be improved at a cost of Rs. 10.2 crore.
A bridge on the Koratagere-Bavali Road in Mysore district will be reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 70 lakh while Rs. 4.25 crore will be spent on improving six roads in the district and Rs. 1 crore will be spent on improving Kempanapalya Road in the neighbouring Chamarajanagar district.
In Mandya district
Four roads in Mandya district will be improved at a cost of Rs. 2.71 crore while three bridges will be built at a cost of Rs. 1.55 crore in the district. In Hassan district, 18 roads will be improved at a cost of Rs. 9.5 crore. In the neighbouring Chickmaglur district, three bridges will be built at a cost of Rs. 1.95 crore and two roads will be improved at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore.
In Shimoga district, projects will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 10.35 crore, in Chitradurga Rs. 3 crore, Davangere Rs. 7.4 crore, Dakshina Kannada Rs. 3.55 crore, Udupi 4.4 crore, Kodagu Rs. 1.1 crore, Dharwad Rs. 6.03 crore, Gadag Rs. 5.55 crore, Uttara Kannada Rs. 7.65 crore, Belgaum Rs. 23 crore, Bagalkot Rs. 10.25 crore, Bijapur Rs. 6.35 crore, Bellary Rs. 5.05 crore, Raichur Rs. 2.75 crore, Koppal Rs. 4.85 crore, Gulbarga Rs. 8.5 crore, Yadgir Rs. 3.05 crore and in Bidar district projects will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 4.25 crore.
The government said all the projects should be completed by March 2015 as stipulated by NABARD. Moreover, the contractors executing the project should take up defect liability for not less than two years from the date of completion of the project, it said.
