Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has provided Rs. 9,812 crore in his budget for completing ongoing irrigation projects to utilise the State’s share of waters in the Krishna and the Cauvery.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said that irrigation potential would be created in 1,08,590 hectares and field irrigation channels constructed for 80,000 hectares.

A sum of Rs. 500 crore would be allocated for modernising Cauvery basin projects.

For effective water utilisation under micro irrigation method, sprinkling and drip irrigation would be taken up, he said.

Solar panels

The Chief Minister said that solar panels would be set up all along the river canals to generate power.

Integrated use of water would be made mandatory for recycling and adopting rainwater harvesting for industries/ power plants and drinking water projects, he added.

A Lake Development Authority would be set up to develop 3,579 tanks under the Minor Irrigation Department and 26,000 tanks under the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.

The Yettinahole project would be expedited to solve water shortage at a cost of Rs. 1,000 crore.

A detailed project report would be prepared at a cost of Rs. 5 crore for the Sriranga scheme for lifting water from the Hemavathy and supplying drinking water in Magadi taluk and also rejuvenating the Arkavathi.
