Rs. 7,406-cr. credit plan for Belagavi district

Agriculture continues to be the priority sector in the district credit plan for the financial year 2015-16, which was released here on Wednesday.

Of the total outlay fixed at Rs. 7,406.66 crore in the plan, Rs. 4,673.88 crore has been earmarked for the sector, which included a crop component of Rs. 2,806 crore.

Higher outlay

The total plan outlay of Rs. 7,406.66 crore is the higher than the preceding year’s Rs. 6,172.18 core.

During the current year, the priority sector lending account for Rs. 6,678.61 crore, which was 20 per cent higher than the Rs. 5,565.51 crore during the preceding year. Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram, who announced the features of the plan, expressed his displeasure over the inordinate delay by banks in disbursing scholarships to needy students.

Complaints

He warned that the district administration would not hesitate to register complaints with the police if the bank authorities did not change their attitude and be prompt in disbursing scholarships.

Criticised

District Social Welfare Officer Uma Saligoudar criticised officials of the State Bank of India, Belagavi branch for not cooperating with the department in realisation of bank cheques under some or the other pretext. She said students were to put to hardship due to this.

District Lead Bank Chief Manager M. Anand was present.
