Kota Srinivas Poojary, Minister for Ports and Muzrai, said on Saturday that Rs. 5 crore had been released for the development of naxal-affected areas in Udupi district.
He was delivering the Republic Day address after unfurling the national flag at a function organised by the district administration at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium here.
Mr. Poojary said that teachers would be outsourced in the naxal-affected areas. Power connection to houses, construction of roads and implementation of various projects of the Department of Forests would be taken up in these areas at a cost of Rs. 2.55 crore.
Work on the third stage of Malpe Fisheries Harbour had been taken up at a cost of Rs. 37.15 crore. Fisheries jetties were being constructed at Hungarcutta, Kodikanyana, and Gangolli in the district at a cost of Rs. 3 crore each. Construction of a fisheries jetty at Koderi at a cost of Rs. 30 crore and a fisheries jetty at Kodi near Kundapur at a cost of Rs. 4 crore had been taken up. Dredging work would be taken up at fisheries jetties at Kodibengre and Hungarcutta at a cost of Rs. 2.07 crore, he said. A sum of Rs. 46 lakh had been sanctioned to provide outboard engines to traditional boats. Houses would be provided to 960 fishermen under the Matsyashraya scheme. A building would be constructed at the Community Health Centre in Hebri at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore. Buildings would be constructed for primary health centres (PHCs) at Kirimanjeshwara, Haklady, and Hallihole villages at a cost of Rs. 1.15 crore each. A primary health centre each had been sanctioned for Hattiangady and Muniyal villages, Mr. Poojary said.
A sum of Rs. 17.25 crore had been released in 2009-10 and 2010-11 to develop 23 tourist spots in the district. While work at 12 tourist spots had been completed, it was on in 11 places. A sum of Rs. 1.8 crore had been provided for the development of the Manna Palla Lake and heritage village in Manipal. A sum of Rs. 3.91 crore had been sanctioned to undertake 128 drinking water projects in the district. A proposal seeking Rs. 51.50 crore had been submitted to the government to implement drinking water projects under the Multi-Village Scheme at Nitte, Hebri, Yedtare, Shiroor, Byndoor, Paduvari, Nada, Senapura, Badakere and Hadavu villages, he said. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, Deputy Commissioner M.T. Reju, and Superintendent of Police M.B. Boralingaiah were present.
