‘Rs. 4.5 cr. to solve drinking water problem in Uttara Kannada’

A sum of Rs. 4.5 crore has been released so far to solve the drinking water problem in Uttara Kannada district, district-in charge minister R.V. Deshpande has said.

He was participating in a Karnataka Development Programme review meeting at Karwar on Tuesday, according to a report here on Wednesday.

Municipal councils

Between Rs. 25 lakh and Rs. 50 lakh had been sanctioned to municipal councils and taluk panchayats and Rs. 20 lakh had been given to tahsildars, Mr. Deshpande said. A sum of Rs. 75 lakh had been sanctioned to provide drinking water in Honnavar taluk and Rs.1 crore for a water purifying unit at Kumta, he said.

Mr. Deshpande approved the newly launched ‘Jaldoot’ scheme to ensure drinking water supply.

A 24-hour helpline with numbers 1077 or 08382-229857 has been set up to attend to the grievances regarding drinking water.

The Minister instructed officials not to leave their jurisdiction till June 1 except in emergency cases.

Satish Sail, Shivram Hebbar, Sharda Shetty, MLAs and Gotnekar, MLC, were present.
