The Bellary district police, in two separate incidents, have seized cash to the tune of Rs. 41 lakh, being carried suspiciously and without any valid documents, and have arrested six persons in this connection.
On Wednesday night, based on a tip-off that hefty amount was being transported from Cowl Bazar area on a two-wheeler, sleuths of the District Crime Investigation Bureau (DCIB) led by Umesh Naik, Police Inspector, intercepted the vehicle at HRG Circle and found Rs. 33.40 lakh cash kept in a bag.
As one Ashok of Cowl Bazar, rider of the two-wheeler was unable to give a proper explanation and did not carry any documents, police arrested him and seized the cash.
Brucepet police have registered a case and an investigation was being carried out to ascertain to whom the cash belonged and where it was being taken to. It is learnt that the cash belonged to one Gopal, a money lender.
On Thursday morning, P.D. Halli police, during the routine checking of vehicles coming from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh at the check-post near Chellagurki village, found Rs. 8 lakh cash in a basket stuffed with fruits, from a car heading towards Bellary. They also took five persons into custody
The arrested — Harish, Hemant, Deeparam, Chetan and driver Raju — are said to have informed that the cash was brought from an automobile shop in Anantapur of Andhra Pradesh to be handed over to a person in Bellary, who was a partner, but did not give a satisfactory explanation as to why the cash was being taken stealthily.
P.D. Halli police have booked a case and are investigating.
