Rs. 2.5-crore grant for LIDKAR

A grant of Rs. 2.5 crore has been given to the Karnataka Leather Industries Development Corporation (LIDKAR) for promoting leather industry and helping leather artisans.

Addressing presspersons after inauguration of a LIDKAR outlet in the Old KSRTC Bus-stand Complex here on Wednesday, Managing Director of LIDKAR T. Honnurappa said that in addition to the grant, the corporation had submitted a proposal to the Government for an assistance of Rs. 4.63 crore to help leather artisans and take up promotional activities.

Business target

Mr. Honnurappa said that the corporation had set a business target of Rs. 5.5 crore for the just ended financial year and had done a business of Rs. 3.75 crore.

To a question, he said the State Government had released Rs. 3.5 crore for the revival of the corporation.

He said that LIDKAR had chalked-out programmes for providing regular work to artisans, increasing business by identifying new markets and setting up stalls.

It had plans to upgrade general facilitation centres, he said.

He said that the corporation had plans to organise exhibitions and provide a rebate of 20 per cent on leather products manufactured by artisans and small-scale units.

Marketing Officer of LIDKAR K.S. Bengera said that the Hubli outlet of the corporation had done a business of Rs. 33 lakh.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Darpan Jain inaugurated the LIDKAR outlet. Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat C. Shikha, Mr. Honnurappa, Joint Director of District Industries Centre J. Jeevannavar and officials of LIDKAR were present.

As part of the inaugural offer, a rebate of 10 per cent will be offered on the leather products at the new outlet till May 5.
