₹ 1.75-crore tender cancelled after lapses are unearthed

Sangappa Upase, Commissioner of Yadgir City Municipal Council, has cancelled a ₹ 1.75-crore tender after finding certain irregularities and violation of norms under the Karnataka Municipal Act and ordered for fresh tender for the same sum.

Mr. Upase, who went thorough the tender process, found out that the tender process had been completed in violation of norms.

The grant [₹ 1.75 crore] was taken from 14th Finance Commission and also from SFC for 2017-18. There were total eight packages for civic works. A sum of ₹ 29.10 lakh in package number 1 followed by ₹ 8.10 lakh in package number 2, ₹ 26.65 lakh in package number 3, ₹ 19.40 lakh in package number 4, ₹ 27.16 lakh in package number 5, ₹ 30 lakh in package number 7 and ₹ 15.52 lakh in package number 8.

In package number 6, there was a proposal for construction of a compound wall surrounding the Veerashaiva community graveyard. But, the estimate cost was not available.

Mr. Upase also found out huge differences in the amount mentioned in the proposal and the estimated cost. When he found out such lapses and irregularities, he ordered cancellation of the tender and suggested that the officials call for fresh tender by following the norms strictly.

When contacted, Mr. Upase said that he has ordered action against those responsible for the lapses.
