Rs. 17 crore tax collected from racecourse in 2014

The Commercial Tax Department has collected betting tax of over Rs. 17 crore from the racecourse in Mysuru in 2014.

Nagarajappa, Joint Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Mysuru division, told The Hindu here on Thursday that Rs. 1.69 crore had been collected in January, Rs. 1.84 crore in February, Rs. 1.46 crore in March, Rs. 1.42 crore in April, Rs. 84 lakh in May, Rs. 47 lakh in June, Rs. 1.11 crore in July, Rs. 1.62 crore in August, Rs. 1.87 crore in September, Rs. 1.84 crore in October, Rs. 2.07 crore in November and Rs. 1.72 crore in December, 2014.

The Mysore Race Club remits the taxes online to the department and according to official sources, revenue goes down whenever there are no races. Situated on the foothills of the Chamundi, Mysore Race Club is the most picturesque. The Royal Family had shifted the racecourse from Kebbe Katte to the present location, which is spread over 152 acres.
