The police seized Rs. 1.65 crore from two vehicles in the Nelamangala police station limits and registered a case on Saturday.
The cash was suspected to have been meant for spending during the election campaign.
Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha said the police seized the cash and informed Income Tax Department officials since the amount was unaccounted for. The cash was seized from the two vehicles near the toll gate at Nelamangala, the CEO said.
The police also seized Rs 12.75 lakh in Ramangaram and Rs 8 lakh in Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district. The police booked cases against the persons carrying the cash. At Siddlaghatta in Chickballapur district, the police seized jewellery worth Rs. 10 lakh, he said.
The CEO said authorities had received 92 complaints of violation of the model code of conduct and action had been taken in 67 cases.
Nominations
A total of 108 candidates filed their nominations on Saturday. With this the total number nominations has gone up to 236.
Sixteen BJP candidates, 15 Congress candidates, nine JD(S) candidates, six KJP and BSR Congress candidates each, and 159 Independents have filed papers so far.
Symbols
The CEO said the Election Commission had given symbols to different political parties: Samajwadi Janata Party - basket carrying fruits; KJP - coconut; Loksatta - whistle; National People’s Party – book; Social Democratic Party of India - autorikshaw; JD(U) – arrow; and BSR Congress - ceiling fan.
